Isis was the first queen of earth in ancient Egyptian mythology - devoted wife of Osiris and mother of Horus.  After Osiris was killed by his brother Seth, she protected his body to enable his trip to the afterlife, and protected Horus from Seth's further wrath.  She often appeared as a sparrow hawk.
